Paul and Barnabas have fled from the city of Iconium because their lives were in danger for preaching Christ. They have arrived at Lystra, a city that is completely pagan—there was not even a Jewish synagogue. Immediately, as Paul and Barnabus entered the city, God worked in a powerful way that opened up an opportunity to preach Christ. This led to opposition and then the stoning of Paul. However, Paul’s motivation impelled him to continue forward in preaching Christ.
