Asaph was one of the leaders of King David’s choir. His descendants continued to serve the Lord in music ministry in both first and second temple. He was skilled in music along with David and was recognized as a seer or a prophet. (2 Chronicles 29:30) Asaph would have be personally attuned to the attitude of the worship from God’s people. It was through him that God delivered a message to Israel that confronted formalism in their relationship with God. He encouraged them to live their lives in unending thanksgiving to God.
